From logo to motivation

By Rafael Rojas

Raymond Thompson, a junior at Rialto High School, plays on the varsity basketball team. He is a player who loves the game and works hard every day. Basketball is a big part of his life, and he puts in a lot of effort to keep getting better. One day, Thompson saw a video that changed how he looked at basketball. While watching Kobe Bryant highlights, he saw him perform the “Mamba” symbol. To many, it just looked cool, but to Thompson, it started to mean something more. The symbol stood for the “Mamba Mentality,” which is about working hard, believing in yourself, and never giving up. From that moment on, Thompson felt connected to that symbol.

That moment didn’t just stay as something he watched; it changed how he acted every day. Thompson started to take basketball more seriously. He realized that being good takes more than just talent. It takes time, effort, and practice. The Mamba symbol reminds him to always try his best. Whether he’s at practice, in a game, or playing on his own, he pushes himself to work harder. Thompson stated, “It gives me inspiration to work hard.”

Thompson has been playing basketball for 12 years. He started when he was young, just playing for fun. But over time, it became something he really cared about. Playing every day became a habit, and that habit became a commitment. He works on his dribbling, his shooting, and learning how to play smarter. Every year, he gets better, and people can see his progress. His hard work is paying off.

The Mamba symbol also helps Raymond in other parts of his life. It’s not just about basketball. When school gets hard, or things don’t go his way, he thinks about what the symbol means.

As Thompson goes through high school, he knows he still has a lot to improve. He wants to keep getting better and reach new goals. With the Mamba Mentality in his mind, he feels ready to keep pushing forward. For Thompson, that one moment watching a video turned into something much bigger. The symbol is now part of who he is. It reminds him every day to work hard, stay focused, and always try to be his best.
