Best Horror Movies of 2023

By Ashley Tapia

The best movies of the past year must be awarded to the horror genre. I believe that this genre really has the best movies of the year because good movies are coming out such as

"Talk to Me" by A24, "The Nun II" by Michael Chavez, and "Deliver Us" by Lee Roy Kunz.

"Talk to Me" by A24 has been awarded the title of Best Movie according to the Rotten Tomatoes website, and has earned 94% on the Tomatometer which is pretty high for a horror movie while it has 82% in the audience score.

I watched this movie to see if it was worth watching due to its rising fame on social media apps such as TikTok and YouTube. I can say that "Talk to Me" was a masterpiece because it had me on the edge of my seat which also felt real being in the situations that the characters had been in. I shared my moments of screams and being jumpy. I feel like "Talk to Me" had its inspirations from other movies such as "Pet Sematary," "Insidious," and as well as "Hereditary." The studio A24 that brought this movie to life has also had its share of well-known movies such as "Hereditary," and "Midsommar," which have also been very popular among the horror community.

The "Nun II" by Michael Chavez also deserves a shoutout for the Best Horror Movie of the Year because it was a pretty well-written movie this year. I don’t really watch the "Conjuring" series but I really enjoyed the "Nun II" because of its fun jumpscares and seat-gripping story. On the Rotten Tomatoes website, the Nun II has a 52% in the Tomatometer category and a 73% for the audience score which is a good score for being a horror movie.

I liked the plot in the "Nun II" and it was interesting to see how the plot developed from the first movie and how it developed into something interesting till the end. I would recommend watching the "Conjuring" series in order to watch the Nun I and II because the movies are in chronological order from these movies till the "Conjuring" which is interesting how in order they are and how the plots are different from each other.

"Deliver Us" by Lee Roy Kunz also deserves the title for Best Horror Movie of the Year because this movie actually scared me and disgusted me because it's a really good example of religious horror which made the movie more interesting for me which is why I enjoyed this movie with friends.

The movie's cinematography and plot hit me with a bang because of its disturbing themes which had me shocked and disgusted but I loved the plot which made it a really good movie this year which is something that you don’t see in a horror movie often. According to the Rotten Tomatoes website, the film got 50% on the Tomatometer and a 91% audience score. I actually agree with these reviews because the movie isn’t really in theaters but only on certain streaming apps, this movie deserves to be recognized more for being a masterpiece.
